This Bahamian-style house on Olivia Street in Key West, which belonged to a friend of mine, was an illustration for prints. Some houses on the island were disassembled in the Bahamas and reassembled in Key West with wooden pegs instead of nails. Bahamian shutters were developed there to block out the sun while capturing ocean breezes. Dracaena plants in the foreground are common in Key West. They root easily and do not require much water so neighbors share cuttings. There is limited rainfall making cloud formations a visual treat. At that latitude, clouds create the most fabulous sunsets drawing people from everywhere.
