This was a commissioned pen and ink for note cards for the Pigeon House Patio restaurant. I took my parents there to have gazpacho soup and avocado salad on the patio. Historically the house was next to the office for the first PAN AM flights to Cuba with seaplanes. It housed carrier pigeons for communication with Havana. Kelly McGillis, who starred opposite Tom Cruz in Top Gun, purchased it in the early 1980s and ran the restaurant for a few years, then sold it and moved away. What movie stars liked about the island is that we left them alone so they could just live normally with no paparazzi. In the Pier House Restaurant I once ate breakfast within five feet of Burgess Meredith and did not stare or speak. It was a natural code of conduct among locals. I left him alone to read his book in peace.
